The Artist
After graduating with a bachelor's degree in digital media and photography, Shandell returned to her hometown: Richmond. Broken Fan Productions was created so that she could explore and express all her creativities and bring clients' ideas to life. Shandell works with various mediums, opting not to confine her talents solely to one form of art. She most often works with acrylic paint on canvas, photography, and videography. But she's open to expanding her artistry by exploring other mediums to execute a particular vision.
From painted portraits to headshots - Shandell always captures the true essence of a person. She has photographed some of Richmond’s most influential and powerful business executives. She also regularly photographs intimate moments between a couple expecting a child and newly engaged couples. Shandell recently won an award from Virginia Press Association for one of her photographs for Virginia Business Magazine. Shandell’s painted work focuses on harmonizing contrast, form, and texture to create a piece unlike any other. Ultimately, she views her relationships with clients as collaborations - working together towards one goal: a finished product the client will cherish forever.
“In practicing the Japanese art of Kintsukuroi, one repairs broken pottery by filling in the cracks with gold, silver, or platinum. The choice to highlight the breaks with precious metals not only acknowledges them, but also pays tribute to the vessel that has been torn apart by the mutability of life.
